Operational Challenges of Business Correspondents

While it is true that regulatory and financial viability issues are paramount challenges faced by Business Correspondents in India, these issues have overshadowed other operational challenges that BCs face on the ground. Grameen Foundation and Enclude (formerly ShoreBank International and Triodos Facet), who have both been working with very different kinds of BCs in the form of Cashpor and Sub-K respectively, decided to come together to discuss, share and document the experiences of BC practitioners working in the field, and brainstorm solutions that are within the purview of the existing regulatory norms. The 2 discussion papers highlight the operational challenges common to BCs, discuss potential solutions to these challenges, and also get the perspectives of other stakeholders involved, such as banks and the technology providers.
