Grameen Foundation began supporting economic development in El Salvador in the early 2000s, providing technical assistance, funding and technology advice to local microfinance organizations a decade after a devastating civil war. Though the level of poverty has dropped significantly in the last decade, more than one-third of Salvadorans still live in abject poverty. Today, Grameen Foundation is helping to strengthen economic opportunities for women entrepreneurs by reducing common barriers they face when starting and growing sustainable businesses.
