Youth Champions for Digital Finance launches in rural India

Less than 10 percent of India’s 650,000 rural villages have a bank branch, and millions of the rural poor have yet to access formal financial services. To help bridge this gap, Youth Champions for Digital Finance will train people in poor, rural areas in digital financial literacy, increasing their knowledge, confidence and ability to successfully use financial services.

Grameen Foundation and Partners bringing satellite technology to benefit smallholder cocoa farmers in Ghana

Grameen Foundation is pleased to announce its engagement in a newly funded consortium, SAT4farming, which will help 240,000 smallholder cocoa farmers across Ghana increase their yields by up to 300 percent, improve their incomes, and build stronger businesses.

The initiative is funded by the Geodata for Agriculture and Water (G4AW) program of the Netherlands Space Office and led by the Rainforest Alliance. Other partners include Water Watch Projects, Satelligence, Touton, and the University of Ghana.

Empowering Her: Freedom from Hunger India Trust Annual Report 2016-17

The 2016-17 Annual Report highlights four projects that have delivered sustainable innovations combining health protection and microfinance to more than 200,000 women and family members in rural India. Freedom from Hunger (FFH) is a supporting organization of Grameen Foundation, and Freedom from Hunger India Trust implements FFH programs in India.

My vision for GFI is to focus on a holistic approach to financial inclusion and digital finance, which moves beyond simplistic access to a bank account or payment system to a system where digital finance can make a real difference in the lives of poor.
