August 18, 2010 - Grameen Foundation today announced the launch of Mifos.com, a Web site that provides information about and details customer successes with the open-source management information system Mifos®.
At Mifos.com, visitors — who typically range from CEOs of microfinance institutions (MFIs) to key players in the microfinance industry — can read Mifos’ compelling value proposition, product specifications, recent reviews and endorsements, latest news, customer success stories, and an analysis illustrating the return on investment for customers. The site also explains Grameen Technology Center’s rapid approach to get customers up and running in the Mifos Cloud™, a groundbreaking, hosted management information service catering to high-potential and socially driven MFIs.
“Mifos.com allows us to speak directly to business leaders in the microfinance industry about the products and services we're delivering on a cloud platform. This new site showcases the proven business value of Mifos and our commitment to accelerating the social impact of microfinance,” said Matt Duncan, Director of Market Development.
Mifos.com is now the system’s official business Web site. Grameen Foundation continues to host Mifos.org, which fosters a learning and collaborative community for Mifos developers, specialists, and users. A new revamped Mifos.org community site will soon be launched, offering improved documentation, easier collaboration, and a more enriching community user experience.
Launched in 2006, Mifos is an advanced software platform that offers MFIs both an online hosted service, Mifos Cloud, and a downloadable open-source edition for use onsite. In a recent CGAP review, Mifos was awarded four out of four stars for its technical capabilities and for the comprehensive implementation, training, and support provided by Grameen Foundation and its specialists. Mifos is currently used by MFIs in the Americas, Asia, Middle East-North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa, in countries such as India, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Philippines and Tunisia, serving more than 800,000 clients. Mifos is spearheaded by the Technology for Microfinance initiative, based at Grameen Foundation’s Technology Center in Seattle, with support in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas.
The mission of the Technology for Microfinance initiative is to better the lives of 3 billion women like Marie-Claire, a Rwandan woman who opened a restaurant and a successful Village Phone business with a microloan of just $40.
