Three Powerful Ways to Be Bold for Women

Women in Benin.

March 08, 2017 by Steve Hollingworth and Kathleen Stack

We take pride this International Women’s Day and celebrate, knowing each of us works daily to empower and embolden women to overcome poverty in their lives. This vision of a world free of hunger and poverty is only attainable if we continue to build opportunity for women. We therefore re-commit entirely to our mission: "To enable the poor, especially women, to create a world without hunger and poverty," and invite you to do so as well.

Last year on International Women’s Day, the world supported the #PledgeForParity campaign and committed to help women and girls achieve their ambitions; challenge bias; call for gender-balanced leadership; value women and men's contributions equally; and create inclusive flexible cultures.

This year, you can commit to #BeBoldForChange. We are asking our supporters to take bold actions with us and I hope you’ll join us on Facebook, on Twitter, and in your everyday life:

  1. Reinforce Women’s Advancement: You help women become entrepreneurs with knowledge and resources to get beyond living day-to-day. As we empower these women, commit to support woman-owned businesses everywhere.
  2. Challenge Bias and Inequality: You help Grameen Foundation put digital financial tools in the hands of women. As we enable women with these tools, encourage and support women in technology in every community rich or poor.
  3. Celebrate Women’s Achievement: You empower women to beat hunger with Grameen Foundation. As we cheer them on their path out of poverty, celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women who are knocking down barriers everywhere -- because visibility and awareness drives positive change.

Every person and community can play a part in driving better outcomes for women: we can all be responsive and responsible leaders in creating a more gender-inclusive world. Through meaningful celebration and targeted bold action, International Women's Day provides an opportunity to drive real change for women. We are so proud that this is the mission and work of Grameen Foundation.

Today, let’s rededicate ourselves to bold actions taken as individuals and as an organization to help progress the gender agenda, because purposeful action can accelerate gender parity across the world.

Thank you to all our supporters for being such a key part in big and bold change in our world!! We invite you to join our $20K match happening now. Double your impact for hard-working women living in poverty around the world.
